Be Proud of Your Pearls

I had the amazing privilege of hosting a women’s G.R.I.T. conference this week through the Chamber. The acronym G.R.I.T. standing for guts, resilience, initiative, and tenacity. Little did we know when we chose that theme in 2020, not long before the pandemic arrived in the United States, just how prophetic that theme would turn out to be. None of us realized just how deep we would soon have to dig to find the courage to develop these much-needed traits. Learn More

Don't Sweat It!

We have entered the dog days of summer. Those days when your makeup melts off before you even make it out of the bathroom. When you step outside and understand how it must feel to endure the purification process inside a traditional Mexican sweat lodge. Learn More

Sometimes it is Hard to See What is Right in Front of You!

Have you ever had the chance to see your community through a visitor’s perspective? I recently had such an opportunity, and the experience was quite eye opening. There is a lot of wisdom to be found in country songs. For instance, there are so many country songs that talk about back roads. It’s like the words to Rodney Atkins’ song, Take A Back Road. The chorus goes like this, “And it makes me wanna take a back road, makes me wanna take the long way home, put a little gravel in my travel, unwind, unravel all night long.” I know one of my favorite things to do on a warm summer evening or weekend is to travel the back roads of Juniata County. The expansive landscape comprised of rolling hills and valleys, surrounded by beautiful mountains, is dotted with stately stone farmhouses, winding creeks, grazing animals, as well as the occasional wandering deer or turkey. There are many historic, food, leisure, and shopping opportunities along the way. One of my favorites, no matter the time of year, is a stop at the Pomeroy Academia Covered Bridge for a casual stroll and photo taking. Learn More
